Technical Writer Summary:

Signature Consultants has an opportunity for a Technical Writer. Our client is seeking a Technical Writer to work out of their Washington, DC office. The ideal candidate is a self-starters who has enthusiastic about technical documentation and software quality assurance and is able to work independently. The candidate will provide the group with various forms of technical writing and documentation. Candidate should possess excellent writing and organization skills, along with expert-level experience in creation of detailed formal documentation using Microsoft Word. The ability to understand technical computer concepts and convey them using clear business-oriented language is a must. Familiarity with software development terminology and common practices is a plus. Candidates who can also demonstrate experience with the following are preferred: VersionOne Agile backlog management tool, HP's ALM (Application Life Cycle Management) web-based tool, Subversion version control software, task-tracking tools, and mailing industry data exchange standards. Candidate must be able to effectively work in a high-volume, fast-paced and evolving environment with limited supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Update and/or create release notes oriented to end users in several different audiences, based on software tracking records, analysis, and research
  • Follow an established template to create and/or edit release notes and other documentation
  • Review documents produced by others using guidelines for standards and style
  • Update process documentation on request, following established templates and guidelines
  • Create and/or support unscheduled documentation as needed
  • Follow established procedures for document version control

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) and 3+ years' experience in related technical writing field
  • Expertise with Microsoft Word (including creation, usage, and maintenance of formatted templates)
  • Proficiency with other Microsoft Office tools
  • Excellent writing and communication skillset
  • Business analysis
  • Requirements analysis
  • User support skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Agile software development environment
  • Familiarity with commonly-used Agile backlog management tools and/or task-tracking tools
  • Familiarity with version management concepts and tools

Security:

  • Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
  • Must be able to obtain and keep a Sensitive Clearance
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, have a Green Card or EAD and have been living in the U.S. for at least the last five years
