Network Operations Manager Summary:

Signature Consultants is seeking a Network Manager for a full-time/direct hire opportunity in Chicago, IL. The Network Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the company's network and communications technologies. This includes managing the IT staff responsible for the network assets and for their career planning and development. The Network Operations Manager will work closely with the IT executive staff and decision makers in other departments in order to support the current infrastructure as well as develop and deploy new cost-effective solutions for all aspects of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage network and communications systems throughout the organization (both on-prem as well as within the AWS cloud)
  • Design and implement short and long-term strategic plans to make certain network capacity meets existing and future requirements
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network resource administration and appropriate use
  • Develop and deploy methodologies for testing network performance and providing network performances statistics and reports
  • Establish best practices and policies for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting the network infrastructure
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on network products, services, protocols, and standards in sup port of network procurement and development efforts
  • Negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services
  • Manage the assessment, approval, and administration all equipment, hardware, and software upgrades
  • Provide technical leadership when interfacing with project managers and developers working on Agile development project teams
  • Create methodologies and processes for the collection and analysis of data for ensuring system uptime and quality

  • Provide guidance to less experienced members of the team
  • Comply with all assigned administrative and operational tasks
  • Supervise staff members directly or indirectly, prioritizing workloads and providing input on performance appraisals and performance management issues
  • Responsible for recruiting and acquiring new staff
  • Takes a lead role in promoting agreed best practice techniques and continuous improvement
  • Develop, document, communicate, and enforce a policy for standardizing systems and software as necessary
  • Identify and learn appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization
  • Work with business partners to ensure issues have been adequately resolved
  • Works to promote an understanding of business process and business requirements with technical staff
  • Provide valuable input on process improvements
  • Provide on-call support of bank applications
  • Experiencing with monitoring tools, such as Splunk
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS
  • Other duties as required

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience with routing and switching infrastructure in a large cloud setup. Knowledge of AWS network services and features preferred
  • Implementation and support of VPC, VPC endpoints and gateways
  • Cloud VPN, BGP peering, NAT, and elastic IP
  • Support of DNS and AWS Route53
  • Experience working with firewalls, including but not limited to firewall design, configuration, and policy enforcement (VPN, L2L, RA, etc.) preferably Palo Alto
  • Experience working with load balancer technology, such as F5
  • Experience working with IP/DNS management devices, such as InfoBlox
  • Experience designing and deploying QoS across large enterprise networks
  • Extensive experience in design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of large, complex IP-based networks
  • Considerable experience with routing protocols including OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, encompassing complex implementations around high availability, redundancy, and fast re-convergence
  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant IT leadership experience
  • Experience managing software vendors and implementing large scale systems
  • Experience in planning, organization and professional development of direct reports
  • Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously
  • Knowledge of cloud computing principles
  • Stays current on emerging technologies and trends in the field
  • Comprehensive understanding of change management process and controlsrsity degree in the field of computer science, information systems, or computer engineering, or >10 years equivalent work experience
  • Certification in AWS would be a significant plus
  • College diploma or university degree
