Implantable Systems Design Engineer Summary:

Signature Consultants is seeking an Implantable Systems Design Engineer for an opportunity with a client in Arden Hills, MN. The Engineer in Implantable Systems Design will have the opportunity to be part of an experienced design team that works on exciting new technologies and participates in a wide range of activities including:

  • Collaborating with leadership and Marketing on product definitions and system architecture
  • Developing complex electromechanical systems including embedded systems, sensors and algorithms, with an interdisciplinary team of hardware engineers, software engineers and research scientists
  • Supporting Regulatory submissions and approvals
  • Training and interacting with field staff on commercialization of new features and platforms

Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for defining system requirements and design for complex medical device systems.
  • Determines product solutions to unmet customer needs.
  • Designs, defines, implements system requirements, system specifications, input/output processes and working parameters by using current systems engineering methods and technologies. May include simulations, mathematical analysis and/or system interaction analysis.
  • Documents system requirements and design by writing documents, reports, memos, change requests. Methods used are determined by approved procedures and standards.
  • Ensures traceability, standards compliance and labeling deliverables are met for products.
  • Solves system problems by analyzing the situation and recommending corrective or alternative actions.
  • Analyzes, coordinates system partitioning (i.e. hardware/software partitioning) and total system integration by using systems engineering practices such as modeling and product line engineering.
  • Continuously improves process and work methodologies by interfacing with peers/cross-functional groups and analyzing activities to improve workflow and work processes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5-8 years related work experience with BS, or 3-6 years with MS, in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of implantable medical device design experience or 5+ years of systems engineering experience
  • Design controls expertise with focus on user needs, intended use, system requirements, system design and traceability
  • Knowledge of Lean/Agile concepts including scrums, burnups, retrospectives, backlog and minimizing WIP
  • Understanding of architecture principles such as subsystem roles and responsibilities, interfaces, resource allocation and utilization, especially as applied to embedded systems
  • Experience with computer-based modeling notations and tools and XML based authoring and publishing is a plus
  • Cross functional experience working with Hardware Design, Software Design, Research, Regulatory and Marketing
  • Comfortable interfacing with BSC field staff and customers
