Desktop Support Consultant Summary:

Signature Consultants is seeking a Desktop Support Consultant for an opportunity with a client in Urbandale, IA.

Essential Duties:

  • Responds to and resolves customer service requests according to corporate policies in a prompt, efficient and courteous manner for external customers, departmental staff, and other personnel at all times.
  • Follows 's change management and problem management methodologies.
  • Ensures that work is carried out within agreed service levels and in accordance with department guidelines.
  • Ensures maximum availability of personal computers, printers, and other peripheral equipment by monitoring, troubleshooting and resolving end-user computer hardware problems, parts replacement, or PC operating system software.
  • Installs computer-related parts, memory, hard drives, and peripherals as needed.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of third party vendors regarding warranty repair service that cannot be handled by on-site personnel.
  • Builds and installs PCs, telephones, and peripheral devices (such as printers, scanners, mobile/smart phones) related to desktop infrastructure, in accordance with department standards
  • Evaluates and tests new PC's, printers, network cards and software releases (Windows OS, etc.) to ensure their capabilities and quality in relationship to existing equipment and software.
  • Provides instructions or informal directions to end users regarding software usage.
  • Identifies resolves, and prepares guidelines for frequently occurring personal computer hardware problems.
  • Identifies and analyzes trends in the issues reposted to help desk and develops preventive solutions and documentations to address these most-often reported problems and issues.
  • Notifies management of increasing trends, unusual activity or repeated activity.
  • Documents all software installation and service requests to track problems in order to ensure the consistency and quality of support provided to employees.
  • Evaluates applications, driver updates and software patches for desktop applications to see if they will solve desktop issues.
  • Assists in the active directory management to include but not limited to the following: Windows AD, Outlook, Exchange.
  • Communicates with co-workers and other outside hi-tech support associates regarding hardware and software related releases, upgrades, programs, issues and trends.
  • Supports the Information Technology team and other departments on an as needed basis.
  • Willingly takes on additional responsibilities as requested in order to accomplish department and Company objectives.
  • Actively participates and contributes to the goals and objectives of the Company by working collaboratively and fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.

Skills And Abilities:

  • Intermediate experience with Windows Desktop Operating Systems, Microsoft Office, MAC OSX, Cisco phone systems.
  • Intermediate experience with active directory management; hardware support, including desktops, laptops, and printers; software support.
  • Must have strong problem solving/trouble shooting skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills in face-to-face, telephone or electronic interaction with internal staff of all levels. Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Flexible and reliable, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet target dates necessary.

Training Or Work Experience:

  • If Associates Degree, minimum 4 years of desktop support experience required.
  • If Bachelor's Degree, minimum 2 years of desktop support experience required.
  • Experience working in an insurance company preferred.

Education:

  • Associates Degree Required - Specific Degree: Computer Science or a related field of study
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred - Specific Degree: Computer Science or a related field of study

Certifications:

  • Certification in MCP or any other Microsoft Desktop certification, or MTA preferred
