Job Summary:

Signature Consultants is seeking a Product Owner fro an opportunity with a client located in Charlotte, NC.
Our client is looking for a matured professional with most recent experience as a Product Owner preferably in a bank/financial services company, with about 15-20 years of overall experience encompassing a mix of Functional skills (Business Analyst) and Technical skills (preferably as a Technical Analyst/ Developer) and then progressed to a Project Management / Scrum Manager Position and have worked in a fast paced Agile based project execution environment.


The candidate will work with business users to understand their requirements and convert them into User stories for our data curation projects/products, and then continues to work with a Scrum team consisting of developers, business/data analysts and scrum master to design, develop, test and deploy the user stories as developed products. The candidate should have the ability to split larger business requests into smaller chunks and thereby deliver incremental value. The candidate will identify what raw data should be tagged from different contributing systems/ sources and how to derive the data related to the overall ask, and drive towards suitable solutions to meet the requirements of curated data, views, extracts, and optionally dashboards and reports (not an immediate ask or need) for use by the end users in biweekly sprints.

Core Requirements:

  • Understand, articulate and execute product vision and roadmap as it relates to the data consumption/curation work stream
  • Strong technical product owner skills with technical knowledge of data products/projects and data base/ data warehouse systems and preferably one analytical data visualization tool such as Tableau
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced Agile (scrum) environment - contribute and involve in scrum ceremonies such as daily standup, retrospectives, team demoes, sprint planning and backlog grooming sessions
  • Competent, self-starter with ability to work independently, solve problems and communicate with various stakeholders
  • Manage and analyze business requirements with the ability to prioritize work during changes and conflicts
  • Requirements elicitation, analysis and ability to manage multiple concurrent product initiatives
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to understand data integration points, process workflows from an end to end perspective
  • Ability to work with architects, technical SMEs / Managers to come up with solutions and ensure that solution meets business needs
  • Ability to analyze, map, translate business ask to technical processes and vice-versa and communicate to various stakeholders
  • Be able to define quality user stories focusing on the 'what', 'why', and 'how' with well-defined acceptance criteria for Engineering team to implement
  • Continuously groom user stories and prioritize team backlog with the scrum team based on business priorities.
  • Conduct end-to-end impact analysis, design reviews, test case reviews (where needed) to ensure that the business vision, goals and requirements are met
  • Create and maintain high quality requirement artifacts (user stories, use cases, data mapping documents, and occasionally process flow diagrams - when multiple systems are involved etc.) with the help of team members.
  • Coordinate and drive discussions/meetings independently with application users and various IT/business stakeholders (including other POs) to understand business problems, requirements, and goals that the business team need to achieve
  • Should be able to evaluate a request and size the effort involved, and accordingly provide feedback to all stake holders, as well as set expectations/targets/goals for deliveries/timelines with the team members

Technical Skills:

  • Experience working with Enterprise level Data bases and Data warehouses such as Oracle, Hadoop, and Teradata (must have)
  • Ability to easily understand and converse on technologies such as database concepts (Data Loads/ETL, SQL, Tables, Views, Data Extracts, Data Modelling etc.) as they apply to Teradata specifically
  • SQL skills - Should be having hands on ability to query databases for validating the results if/when required.
  • Good knowledge of Jira

Soft skills:

  • Be able to communicate/articulate functional and technical concepts clearly
  • Quick learner - ability to use different sources to learn and assimilate and not need day to day guidance.
  • Inquisitive, strong learner and proactive (able to anticipate issues rather than reacting to them)
  • Looking for someone who can be a team leader/player not a team manager. Someone who is able to influence and lead the team. Resolve bottlenecks, blocks effectively
  • Solid leadership skill is required to drive technology transformation and delivery, related products and features delivery, from inception until the solution enters production

Background/ Desired Experience:

  • At least 2+ years of relevant product delivery work experience as a Product Owner supporting scrum teams in an Agile environment in the most recent role is a must have
  • At least 3+ years as a project manager/ Scrum Master before becoming a PO is preferred, to be able to understand the project life-cycle, and end-to-end SDLC, project implementation/execution experience
  • 10+ years of prior experience with information technology programs and services, in various roles such as Developer (must have - a few years), BA/DA (must have - a few years), etc., with demonstrated expertise in enterprise data management and related technologies
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) / Certified scrum Master (CSM) etc., certifications - nice to have
  • Experience working in a big bank is preferred
