GIS System Admin Summary:

Signature Consultants has an opportunity for a GIS System Admin to work on a contract position located in Hollywood, FL.   The incumbent in this position will serve as the lead systems administrator for our client’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) unit, supporting day-to-day operations and leading projects to enhance and develop their capabilities. The individual will be responsible for the design, installation, configuration and operation of geographic information systems and any integrated custom and commercial off-the-shelf components. The GIS Administrator conducts performance tuning, scaling, maintenance and monitoring, and interfaces with third party vendors and contractors as necessary to ensure secure and reliable operation of all supported systems.


  • Manage installations, configurations, upgrades, and troubleshoot Geographic Information Systems (GIS) including databases, software, user applications, and hardware
  • Designs, manages, and monitors technical project for GIS. Works with customers in defining and developing GIS user requirements and needs
  • Expands, tests, and executes upgrades involving GIS products, web publishing strategies, and system architectures.
  • Designs and develops geographic information components, data services and applications within the Department’s secure Information Technology (IT) infrastructure.
  • Ensures the security, reliability, availability and sustainability of the Department’s GIS services.
  • Designs and performs capacity planning to accommodate new technologies and to meet customer needs of the Department’s GIS services in terms of both hardware and software.
  • Tests and evaluates third party software deliverables.
  • Contributes with revisions and additions to systems configuration procedures and practices. Develops and maintains appropriate system documentation.
  • Establishes technical credibility and provides support leadership to junior support staff.
  • Serves in a Tier-2 support role within the Information Technology support structure. Adheres to established support and escalation procedures and maintains in-depth incident and resolution documentation.
  • Participates in team meetings and must be available for emergency support responsibilities 24/7.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and other activities and events as requested.
  • Must adhere to all Client policies and procedures.
  • Performs additional related duties, as required.


  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, Remote Sensing, Geography, or a closely related field is required.
  • A minimum of three years (3) of previous experience performing related work in the field of large GIS integration projects or other relevant fields of work is required.
  • Previous practical experience with IT service quality standards is required.
  • Advanced knowledge and expertise with the administration, configuration, deployment and maintenance of enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technologies such as ESRI ArcGIS Server, is required.
  • The incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Demonstrate excellent English written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to all client sites and have a flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.


  • Advanced knowledge and expertise with the administration, configuration, deployment and maintenance of enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technologies such as ESRI ArcGIS Server.
  • Advanced knowledge of and practical experience in disciplined approaches to project management.
  • Good knowledge of quality standards, industry standard best practices and continuous improvement processes.
  • Demonstrate customization and scripting skills in Java Script, ArcObjects, Python, PowerShell and C#.
  • Knowledge of role based access security controls and databases.
  • Knowledge of virtual server infrastructure systems.
  • Demonstrate experience in commercial, industry-standard software for GIS and imagery analysis.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage comprehensive IT or GIS integration projects.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities in the field of work.
  • Demonstrate excellent skills in producing well-structured technical documents and operational procedures.
  • Proven ability to work in a team and to recognize the contribution of others.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, including effective presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Demonstrate high level of motivation, initiative and responsibility.
