Job Description

Delivery Coach/Agile PM Summary:

Signature Consultants has an opportunity for a Delivery Coach/Agile PM. In this role the candidate will work on our client's website redesign project. Teams are comprised of developers, product owners and delivery coaches. This profile can be a BA, PM, Agile Coach, Process person, Scrum Master, as long as the candidate is excited to transition from a traditional organization to a lean organization. The Delivery Coach (DC) has as their focus: 1) guided continuous improvement (process effectiveness), 2) foundation/conditions for success and 3) enhanced flow of work. Without a competent DC, the project is likely to fail.

The Delivery Coach focuses on the flow of the work - they may do the work, but if not, they rely on the commitment of their Team Members. As a (visibly humble) servant to the team, the DC protects the team from interference and assists with resolving anything that encumbers, impedes or blocks work, escalating as needed. Appreciating that some aspects of software delivery are particularly affected by organizational practices, the Delivery Coach facilitates decision making and motivation, including helping the team to address and follow through on an appropriate level of commitment. The Delivery Coach expresses that the team deliver on its own commitments.

With deep skills in lean and agile methodologies, the DC ensures the team focuses on high-quality, valuable iterative releases and is opposed to waste, tending toward a bias and focus for shipping work items with quality and processing issues and risks with urgency. Additionally, the Delivery Coach facilitates and emphasizes close collaboration among and across roles and functions with open, honest, transparent communication. Dysfunctions exist on all teams, the Delivery Coach provides advice to the team, opportunities for people to learn (even through mistakes), helps the team to solve problems, listens to constructive feedback, negotiates conflict within the team and helps to foster self-awareness for improvements.

The DC is an expert in the process, co-developing and ensuring the right set of value-added practices and principles are tailored, adopted and used. This is not a managerial role - the team does not report to the Delivery Coach, and the Delivery Coach is not a task master who ensures the laundry list of requests is completed. While the Delivery Coach keeps the team productive and focused within the context of the project vision and goals, the DC also assesses team members and informs Sr. Management if there are (motivational or capability) issues with performance. If there is a project budget, the DC can manage this and report to Sr. Management. The DC ensures someone, often themselves, schedules & facilitates various meetings. Cross-fertilization learning between Team Members results in higher-quality, easier-to-maintain systems and reduces attrition risk.

The Delivery Coach role is also responsible for maintaining the release plan as current along with any progress measures (e.g. burn downs and trends), preferably automated. Additionally, the DC evaluates and tailors project management and collaboration tools, e.g. task boards, whiteboards, etc., anything needed to generally support and foster transparency.
