Data Governance Steward Summary:

Signature Consultants has an opportunity for a Data Governance Steward. The successful candidate will lead the efforts to establish the framework, create a roadmap, and deliver the initial capabilities of the Data Governance COE. The COE will provide guidance, tools and support to business functions, data science communities and Product Management (a.k.a. application development) teams across the R&D, Commercial and Supply Chain organizations. Specifically, the COE will: facilitate nomenclature alignment and consistency in defining global business terms; support data quality analysis and improvement; provide guidance and training on approved tools and platforms for data profiling, data discovery, and data visualization; and communicate policies, procedures and monitoring protocols for accessing sensitive data for analysis and application development purposes.


  • Identify and instantiate policies, procedures, tools and aids to facilitate business nomenclature alignment, data quality improvements, and access control and monitoring of sensitive data across the enterprise
  • Collaborate with key users and operational groups across R&D to identify and document needs for data governance guidance and support; draft charter and document framework for the Data Governance COE
  • Partner with the IT Technology Platform team, data science communities, IT Product Management analytics team to contribute to the creation of critical tools and processes to support data governance
  • Partner with key stakeholders to assess data needs and to define standards and policies to ensure data is compliant with defined information, policies and quality requirements
  • Understand and communicate the importance of data governance, quality, and value of availability for analytics across all platforms. Understand impacts of data components across all platforms Partners with leadership to implement new processes and procedures for more efficient ways to maintain the overall data across all platforms
  • Design and recommend governance structures and control frameworks for the ongoing management of data
  • Identify and execute continuous improvement opportunities within the data governance processes
  • Generate effective status reporting tools such as key metrics, project trackers, and dashboards


  • Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field; or Bachelor's degree plus equivalent experience in related field(s)
  • 10+ years of experience leading large scale Master Data Management and/or Data Governance strategy and implementation initiatives
  • Strong knowledge of database management systems, data analysis/profiling, data modeling, and data warehouse concepts
  • Ability to lead through influence across an organization leveraging effective relationships and communications (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to function independently as well as within complex, matrixed teams spanning multiple projects and work streams
  • Ability to drive to a consensus balanced with making the hard calls when needed
  • Confidence to set strategic direction and lead through ambiguity
  • Experience interacting with global teams
