Job Description

Release Train Engineer Summary:

Signature Consultants has an opportunity for a Release Train Engineer. The Release Train Engineer (RTE) facilitates an Agile Release Train (ART) at the Program level and navigates the complexity of delivering software consistently in large environments. The RTE is responsible for program execution of the value stream, escalating impediments, managing risk, and helping drive continuous improvement for the ART. They play a critical link between multiple scrum teams by facilitating communications and sharing progress to ensure all teams involved in the ART are focused on successful delivery. RTEs are responsible for facilitating Program events including Program Increment (PI) Planning, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees release trains with complex scope and inter-dependencies
  • Drives the maturity curve of scaled agile adoption, partially based on company specific guidance - the rest based on industry norms and emerging trends
  • Facilitates and fosters an environment of collaboration, innovation and creativity
  • Manages program and release level processes for an Agile Release Train demonstrating servant leadership, coupled with domain knowledge and technical savvy
  • Mentors and coaches Scrum Masters on their Agile Release Train
  • Applies advanced Agile, Lean and SAFe principles and skills
  • Establishes and supports consistent reporting practices across the release trains; resolves/reports issues and manages dependencies and risks across the ART and between ART's and/or value streams
  • Facilitation and continuous improvement of periodic ART Reviews with organizational leaders and stakeholders to provide clarity on the expected value delivery and to gain stakeholder feedback on changes to direction the release train may need to take
  • Facilitates periodic synchronization meetings, including the ART sync at the Program Level
  • Serves as the organizational servant leader and facilitator for program events and activities for planning, executing, delivery and improvement, such as Program Increment (PI) Planning readiness, Inspect and Adapt workshops, System and Solution Demos and PI Planning events and activities
  • Ensures effective communication and coordination for and during quarterly planning
  • Serves the ART in resolving or reporting escalated issues involving risk, or dependency management that may be hindering the team's ability to deliver
  • Enables the release train to continuously improve through intentional Lean and data driven inspect and adapt cycles; Escalates and tracks key ART metrics, to include impediments and execution; drives relentless improvement activities and events. This includes the facilitation of Art Retrospectives quarterly, or more often as needed

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years direct experience as a Release Train Engineer (RTE) - transforming new teams / release trains to Lean
  • Agile at scale as the primary role (not as a secondary or supplemental role)
  • 5+ years of Agile experience in a change agent role
  • 5+ years technology experience in IT full development life cycle
  • Strong understanding of Agile principles, concepts, and ceremonies
  • Scrum, Kanban, and Lean Agile experience
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Strong process improvement background
  • Recent Team Leadership experience
  • Able to quickly establish collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders and team members to help them on their journey of adopting Agile; Strong collaboration and influencing skills; ability to establish and maintain strong relationships, establish credibility, build consensus, and achieve goals through influence
  • Has faced difficult challenges, group dynamics, organizational impediments, and has facilitated problem solving and creative solutions for teams, managers and others

Preferred Skills:

  • Agile Certifications preferred (RTE, SPC, Scaled Agilist (SA), CSM, , etc.)
  • JIRA Software Experience
  • Financial services experience
  • Big data experience
